Karyn Dulaney (she/her)

Initially a distance runner and triathlete, Karyn has been primarily adventure racing for about 15 years. A Rootstock Racing Team member, she is excited to also represent the Women of AR team for the 2025 season, as some of her most memorable races have been on all women's teams. She is a USARA DEI committee member and is passionate about inclusivity and trying to broaden the sport of adventure racing. Karyn is also a co-founder of the Community Gear Closet, which provides free rentals to local community members to enable others to have new adventures and engaging outdoor opportunities. Karyn has a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. She has spent her career focused on the rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries and post-surgical recoveries. She has a particular love for working with endurance and master athletes. Karyn heads the running program at her company, spending a few hours a week researching and training other clinicians on the most current methods for treating run-related injuries as well as other run-related topics. She has taken numerous continuing education courses on treating endurance athletes, including how to perform bike fits and designing strength training programs for runners. Karyn can most often be found running or hiking the local trails at sunrise with her dog Kaya. She loves taking photos and looking for wildlife in the woods. Besides getting to play outside, Karyn believes the best part of adventure racing is the life skills you gain in adaptability and learning to elevate your teammates. She is looking forward to sharing this with other women!

Britt Mason (she/her)

Britt is an endurance MTB, gravel, and adventure racer. She is a five-time winner of the Transylvania Epic MTB and Gravel Stage Races, and she also had the opportunity to represent Team USA at the 2024 UCI XCM Marathon World Championships. Britt got her start in endurance sports in adventure racing right out of college, spending a decade doing expeditions and one day races around the country. She took some time away from the sport to focus on bike racing, but made a return this fall. She won the women’s division of Adventure Racing Nationals with her team (Karyn and Nicki), and they took 4th overall. Britt is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and she and her partner Jen have run group training cohorts for MTB events. She enjoys spending time in nature with her pup, Ari, reading before sunrise, and drinking unnecessary amounts of coffee. Britt is naturally gifted at working with her hands and is willing to embrace change.  Ask her about her finish carpentry and remodeling business or how she worked as a technical firefighter for over a decade.

Monette Bailey (she/her)

Monette spends her work days helping people learn about and tap into their best selves, to give more meaning to their work, and create cohesion in their teams. Off days are spent sharing the joys of being outside – in all the ways - because she knows the soul-enriching benefits of connecting with the trees, the water, animals, rocks, dirt, and each other in these spaces. Monette is more of an AR groupie, than a racer, though she participates in at least two races a year to keep her AR cred and volunteers as often as she can. As a USARA DEI committee member, Monette works to create accessible and welcoming adventure racing spaces so that all kinds of people can join the fun. She's an International Coaching Federation Professional Certified coach, trained through Presence-Based Coaching, and a CliftonStrengths certified coach and facilitator. Monette feels blessed to be able to meld her worlds in service of supporting people to show up outside (and inside) in grounded, strong, and authentic ways. If you want to see her really light up, though, ask her about her three grandgirls.

Jen Tillman (she/them)

Jen (aka Jen-Till-Human) is new to Adventure Racing and has over 25 years experience riding and racing mountain bikes. She feels most alive when exploring nature on (and off) the trails. Jen is a national board-certified health and wellness coach. Having spent two decades in a corporate America career, Jen recently transitioned into various coaching roles and is focusing on slowing down, listening inwardly, and guiding others in (re)discovering their authentic truth while confidently navigating life’s ebbs and flows with courage and compassion. Adventure racing and sports are embodied practices, naturally.  The body, mind, and soul have powerful intelligences that we can learn to tap into and develop. Jen seeks to enhance others' knowledge, learning, and embodied experience using adventure as an instrument to further healing, self-compassion, and ultimately transformation.

Olga Huber (she/her)

Olga started her endurance sports career as an ultra runner. She is a 3-time USATF master’s division National Champion, winning 50- and 100-mile trail runs. She jumped into orienteering and completed multiple 24-hour Rogaine races in the US and Europe. Olga is passionate about bringing more women into adventure racing. She started Fragile Flowers, an all-female AR team. The team podiumed in multiple USARA National Championships and is frequently ranked in the top 3 all-female teams. Over the last couple of years, Olga added ultra cycling to her resume. She participates in Randoneering / Audax events with her partner, John. In 2023, together, they completed the 1,200 km Paris-Brest-Paris/PBP with over 7,000 other riders worldwide. When not running or biking, you might find Olga on the dance floor at Lindy Hop, Balboa, or Blues dancing events nationwide. Olga is also proud to be an immigrant and mother to two children.

  • What is the pricing for the program
Registration will close on June 19, 2024 at 11:59P EST. Pricing is as follows: $750 - if paid via Zelle $775 - if paid via Venmo/Paypal
  • How many participants do you expect to be in your program?
We will be limiting our program to no more than 24 riders. Our monthly ride groups will be at most 12 riders per group and organized based on rider skill and fitness ability. It is important to us to ensure all riders feel safe and encouraged while stretching their limits.
  • What skill and fitness level must I have to participate in the program?
You have some experience riding trails with roots and rocks, and can ride continuously for 90+ minutes.
  • What if I have never raced before?
This program is designed to prepare you for completing a big event whether that is a specific race like the Transylvania Epic MTB Stage Race or a big adventure with your friends in the mountains.
  • When and where will the monthly group rides take place?
When: We will be targeting Saturdays with a rain date on Sunday (of the same weekend). Where: We will start with rides in Patapsco, and, based on the group's abilities, progress to the Frederick Watershed/Gambrill and Michaux.
  • How will the group rides be organized?
Group rides will have a 12-person maximum and be split into smaller groups based on skill/fitness level. It is important to us to ensure all riders feel safe and encouraged while stretching their limits.
  • Tell me more about the Learning Seminars.
We will host five specific learning seminars with local-area experts. These sessions will take place on Sundays at Patapsco Bikes in Elkridge and will be recorded for those who cannot attend in person. Topics we are targeting are bike maintenance, mobility/injury prevention, nutrition, mindfulness/self-care, and preparing for your event.
  • What's included in the Rothrock Training Camp weekend?
We will be leading 3 curated rides that traverse sections of the TSE stage race course. We will have a late afternoon/early evening "happy hour" ride on Friday. Saturday and Sunday, we will cover more terrain and provide additional options for those needing to depart early. You will be responsible for food and lodging. For those interested in #camplife, we will stay at the Seven Mountains Campground as our base camp for the weekend (1 mile from the TSE camp). Seven Mountains provides many camping options, from rustic to full amenities. We will provide more information for those who are interested.
  • Tell me about the Training Plan.
The 21-week cycling training plan will prepare you for the Transylvania Epic 3 or 5-day stage race event (or your next big challenge) and is intended to start on January 1, 2024. The plan will be periodized into five phases and will include weekly target workouts and goals that you progress toward your May event. You will select from two available plans based on your specific goals and life management parameters: Our medium-volume plan is designed to prepare you for the TSE 3-day event or medium-length endurance event. You can dedicate approximately 8-11 hours per week on the bike. Our high-volume plan is designed to prepare you for the TSE 5-day or longer endurance event. You can dedicate approximately 10-14+ hours per week to the bike. The training plans will have similar goals and workouts, creating opportunities for group members to train together outside of our regular monthly rides. If you want to customize your plan and/or want regular 1:1 feedback throughout the program, please contact us to discuss a VIP coaching option right for you.
  • Have a question that is not listed here...
Please send your question to jentillhuman@gmail.com or attend our Webinar Overview on Monday, December 4th at 7:00P ET.
  • Resources from our December 4th Webinar Call
Link to the recorded Webinar Video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dXl92q4nXYAqU8cuQ2ONbAi50TewaCZp/view?usp=sharing Webinar Presentation: What were the themes we heard were most important from our Webinar guests: Questions we received: How quickly does the TSE sell-out? Generally if you commit before April, you will be ok. What kind of mountain bike do I need? We recommend a full suspension or hardtail in good working order. (This person will likely ride a 2.5" tire hard tail and we think she'll do well) When are the group rides? We will target Saturdays with Sunday as a backup plan due to the weather. We can make minor adjustments as needed based on changing weather conditions. Does the TSE have sweepers? Do I need to worry about stage cut-off's? TSE focuses on safety and will have sweepers on course. They also have volunteers pre-ride the course the morning of the race to ensure course markings are good-to-go. And their stage maximums are very generous!
